WonHundred Word Wednesday

Today's prompt is something I experienced once.

Spare some change please? The old woman on the street corner asked, her cardboard sign stained with grease and other unidentifiable substances.
I opened my purse and dug through the pocket I held my coins in. A small pebble my daughter gave me, a few smashed penny souvenirs, and an army can opener were found among the few dimes, nickels and pennies. I didn’t even have a quarter. Everything was plastic.
“Sorry, it’s all I have on me.”
“Wow lady. You don’t got much.”
Her words saddened me. I had so much, yet couldn’t give to one in need today.

  1. Wow, this was left an impression. Definitely made me stop and think about what's important! I'm surprised someone would say that too.
