Won Hundred Word Wednesday.

He itched to clear the ground,

to look out and see nothing

He itched to clear the ground, to look out and see nothing but wide open spaces. He’d daydreamed about it many times. Yet the same awful scene reached his eyes when he looked out his back window.

It would take a bit of work. He would need to pick up a few things since he didn’t have all the materials. Yet.

He glanced back into the kitchen where his wife stood over the sink. She told him he couldn’t get rid of anything, but he knew she hated the sprawling cityscape as much as he did. She’d come around eventually.

Must be since it's nearing Halloween, but I went a little dark on this one.  It's always fun to play around with these prompts. You never know where it will lead.

Won Hundred Word Wednesdays

Today's story brought to you by the following prompt:

August 26, 2015: As he opened the car door,

there was a loud

As he opened the car door, there was a loud woman waving her polka-dot umbrella. “You can’t stop there!”

He waved his hand in the dismissive manner he was accustomed to, stopping her mere inches from his face, her umbrella frozen mid-swing as she succumbed to his power.

“I’ll stop anywhere I want, you old bat,” he said.

He took a few more steps, staring straight ahead at the door he expected to find his date behind.

Another step brought him directly over a large X. He looked up in time to see the dragon before it squashed him flat.

Won Hundred Word Wednesday

August 5, 2015: As the dream faded, she chased it, forlorn

When I saw this prompt, I read it fast and at a glance making me think the last word forlorn said something different. See if you can figure out what word I thought it was as you read the results of this prompt.

As the dream faded, she chased it, forlorn. She raised her head and reflected on the loss. She’d always wanted one of those fascinating creatures as a pet, but they were extinct now. She shook her head, not understanding how they could have been wiped out so completely.

When the unicorns first came to this land it didn’t take long to gain control. The humans had been hunted for sport, then in an attempt to fight off the unicorns they’d dropped bombs, killing themselves as well.

Such a loss.

In the dream, the human was female and heavy with child.

WonHundred Word Wednesdays

Another two-fer. Catching up still from the busy summer. I have them all written and will be giving you doubles for the next little while.

First, this weeks: October 15th: They say everyone who looks into their family history will find a secret sooner or later
They say everyone who looks into their family history will find a secret sooner or later. Most people find out they are related to some famous person, maybe even a king or what not. Not me.
The only good thing that comes from discovering something of this magnitude was that perhaps I could use the innate powers born to people of my lineage.
Centuries ago I would have been burned at the stake.
Now, all I had to do was indicate I was interested in reading from the book of the dead and I had all kinds of possibilities open.

And now what I should have posted on August 27th: She decided to go to her father's grave, to ask his advice

He’d been gone eight months and three days, yet she knew she could still go to him. Her black clothes stood out in the bright spring morning, but she didn’t feel ready to give them up. It protected her from unwanted conversation. As long as she wore them, she didn’t have to speak to another living soul.
Father would be disappointed in her for hanging on this long.
But the alternative would be to return to the real world.
To answer the question he had asked her eight months and four days ago.
Daddy would have given Shawn his blessing.

So go see who's been able to write one for this week.

WonHundred Word Wednesday

Today's prompt is something I experienced once.

Spare some change please? The old woman on the street corner asked, her cardboard sign stained with grease and other unidentifiable substances.
I opened my purse and dug through the pocket I held my coins in. A small pebble my daughter gave me, a few smashed penny souvenirs, and an army can opener were found among the few dimes, nickels and pennies. I didn’t even have a quarter. Everything was plastic.
“Sorry, it’s all I have on me.”
“Wow lady. You don’t got much.”
Her words saddened me. I had so much, yet couldn’t give to one in need today.

Time to visit the other blogs involved.

Won Hundred Word Wednesday Double Feature

Once again I was out of town last week and didn't think far enough ahead to do my writing prompt.

So I'm doing two again this week.

Here's last weeks prompt:  THE PINK GLOVE LAY ON THE GROUND, ALMOST COVERED.

The pink glove lay on the ground, almost covered. The snow hadn’t stopped falling since late last night. He picked it up wondering who it belonged to. Probably some kid who hadn’t noticed it was missing.
He shook off the snow and placed it gently on the fence post, hoping to make it visible if someone came looking.
As he turned to continue on his errand, he ran into her.
“Jillian?”
“Spencer? Is that you? I haven’t seen you in ten years.”
The desire to caress her face like he used to washed over him.
Was she single?

No ring.

Now for this weeks prompt:  THE URGE TO INTERRUPT HIM BEFORE HE HAD FINISHED WAS OVERWHELMING.

Stopping another dragon mid-hunt was stupid even for a maverick like himself.
Yet if he didn’t stop Kors from devouring that human, Drog would regret it. Something about the human sparked a memory from years ago.
Drog took in a slow breath. Goat’s milk. The same thing he’d been fed as a hatchling when his mother had been killed by knights.
Drog inched closer to the peasant and looked into the terrified eyes.
Recognition sparked in both of them. Drog swung his tail into Kors.
I claim this one as my slave. It was the only way to save him.

Now go see what the other's did with the prompt

Wednesday Writing Prompts

Wonhundred Word Wednesdays have been helping me keep my writing muscles working. I've been doing edits for so long, if I didn't have these, I think my mind would get really bored. So many of the prompts just beg to be developed into longer stories.

It will be fun to come back to them some day and see where I can take them.

Here's today's prompt:

It was just for one night:

It was just for one night. A million dollars and a newly built mansion would be the prize to the one who could stay the longest in the haunted mansion. I’d lived in worse conditions. Endured more fear and terror than anyone alive. I could handle it.

At least I thought I could.

I placed my sleeping bag on the hard floor in the corner and settled down to sleep.  Most of the other contestants were gone within moments. One stayed for over two hours before finally fleeing.
None of it scared me.

Until my murdered sister spoke my name.

Please check out the other ones.

Wonhundred Word Wednesday on a Thursday.

My internet died on Wednesday so I was sort of delayed but here it is. My Won Hundred Word Wednesday on a Thursday. ;)

WonHundred Wednesday 6_11

He was used to being abused, mistreated, spit on, shouted at, and complained about. And that was just the students. Parents were often worse. But he loved finding that diamond in the rough. The kid who made everything worth it.
Josh was smart in more than regular academics. The kid could see a problem on the board and solve it in his head just as easily as breathing, but his abilities with interpersonal relationships was astounding. And he knew just the right thing to say to each person he met.
“Thanks for everything, Mr. Torgerson.”

There’s a first for everything.

As always, have fun checking out what the other authors did with the same prompt:

WonHundred Word Wednesdays

A little history to this one. I forgot about it till 10:30 the night before it was due to be posted. As I sat there and contemplated the prompt, my husband comes and sits next to me on the couch. I mention my task and he says, "there are bones in it." Then BAM! it comes out. Not my normal style of writing, but I really really want to meet this kid. I will have to consider writing more to this story.

Hope you enjoy.

You find a box in the attic that isn’t yours.

There are bones in it.
They aren’t mine. They aren’t even human.
Not animal either. It’s a strange cross of reptile and human.
Think alien
Am I surprised? Not really.
I only see my mom during the full eclipse of the moon. That’s the only time the portal’s open.
I suppose it would be safe to assume they were hers. Not from her body. But in the fact they belong to her.
Yeah, she’s odd like that.
Now how do I explain to Dad that I took those bones, put them back together.

Having a new pet will be fun.

Now go see what the others have written.

WonHundred Word Wednesday.

It's time once again for a fast little prompt:

You know what they say… Never run with scissors, bite the hand that feeds you, put all your eggs in one basket, count your chickens before they hatch, look a gift horse in the mouth, (what does that mean anyway?).

But why don’t they give you good advice? Why not something like "if you go walking through the woods and stumble across a mansion made of diamonds, don’t knock."  Now I’m stuck in this prison, unable to escape and about to marry a dragon that turns into a man only at night. Who said Diamonds are a girl’s best friend?

Now, go see what the others did.
